Internationally recognized “esophagologist” and heartburn specialist Dr. Butch Rosser organized and executed a heartburn screening clinic for over 900 patients in Atlanta along with Dr. Mehmet Oz. Screening and “scout scopes” were done and many patients directed to local specialists to be further evaluated. The show was nominated for an Emmy and made great strides to increased awareness to dangerous aspects of heartburn and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

Even though GERD is so common, most people don’t understand that chronic, severe heartburn can lead to catastrophic complications, cancer and even death. I have had personal experience with tragedy from this disease. “My uncle died at the age of 46 from esophageal cancer that resulted from chronic, severe heartburn. And esophageal cancer is the fastest growing cancer in America”, Rosser said.

Unfortunately, it frequently is not diagnosed early and not treated properly. And up to 40% of the patients who are treated do not have the disease at all. This is why you must be properly evaluated to know where you stand. “You don’t know what you don’t know and what you don’t know can hurt you”.
